But there were a few items that I had to list on eBay because I couldn't find them in Half.com's catalog. One of the items was a video game.
I snapped a couple pictures and wrote a description for it....and !voila!, it was posted for all to see on the internet's largest auction website. I started the auction at a penny and the bidding was slow at first. On the seventh and final day though, the bids piled on at a feverish pace, pushing the final bid up to nearly $50! I couldn't believe that somebody was willing to pay almost $50 for an old used video game. It was that sale that made me interested in online auctions.
Since that time I have spent much time at garage sales, estate sales, flea markets, clearance aisles, etc. experimenting and learning what sells and what doesn't. What's a good price and what's not. I've learned that just because something is old (and is even in the original box!) doesn't mean it's worth anything to anybody. Some of the lessons in this business are hard to learn, but you just do your best to never have to learn them again! Beyond the product itself is the presentation. A good, clean presentation goes a long way in selling an item and getting the best price for it. This is where my wife Christa has been a big help. She has a degree in graphic design and is a talented photographer. She has designed all our graphics and taught me how to take photographs that are more effective in auction listings.
